Social media used for this project were chosen depending on certain factors. This website contains mostly visual and creative content, which is ideal for Pinterest platform consisting of only pictures. We also have to consider the fact that website is professional portfolio of displayed work and for that reason second chosen social media is LinkedIn. And lastly, Reddit as a platform is great for discussions, sharing pictures, work and guidance and that is how this project could be possibly discussed with others thanks to this social media.
Unlike more popular platform, Instagram, Pinterest is great to show off creative work, aesthetics and any design projects rather than photographs.
All blog posts were referenced in created pins and labelled with #. Short description was written above the hashtags to introduce the topic.
To grow my audience on Pinterest, I tried to follow as many users who grabbed my attention and had similar content as me. Unfortunately, this didn't go as planned. I didn't get many back, even when I tried to comment underneath the posts. Many posts on Pinterest are usually from bigger companies unless we don't search for anything very specific. Behance, Dribble, Fiverr and many more are on the first few lines, making it almost impossible for new users to be seen by others.
But even after these difficulties, Pinterest has been fun platform to use and explore others people work.
Alternative to Facebook, LinkedIn has very similar interface but is used by big companies to recruit people and find new talents. Creation of LinkedIn was relatively easy and compared to Pinterest, this platform required much more detailed information about me as person.
For each blog post was created social media post with link to this website, hashtags and overview of the post's content.
Compared to Pinterest, LinkedIn has great feature of being able to see views on each posts which brought great results for this social media platform. Some posts had more than 50 views, which is very good. Some people also commented underneath the post or liked the post. Instead of following many unknown people, I decided to join groups with similar interests to achieve more profile views this way.
Overall, LinkedIn was the most successful social media channel used for website promotion.
Very good platform for discussion or project show offs, Reddit gives people ability to also gain their karmas depending on how active they are, but mostly how many people interacted with them by liking their posts, comments or given them follows.
Posts on Reddit were created same way like on two platforms above with link to the original post on the website, descriptive hashtags and information about the post.
To get noticed by other users, I joined few groups that are related to theme of my website, where I also shared some posts and asked for feedback. I also joined few discussions and commented under other's people posts. As a result, I didn't achieved what I hoped for. Users sometimes didn't even reacted to my comments or ignored my posts in groups completely. As an experiment, I tried to write comments to very popular groups, for example about cats. People liked my comments and my karma started to grow a little.
Therefore I think Reddit could be useful platform and very fun to browse, but only certain topics are popular. To grow audience new users should first find trending posts and groups, where they can be noticed and rise their karma. Unfortunately, as a beginning designer I was left unnoticed.
As summarisation, better results could definitely be achieved if more time would be given to grow the audience or if different platforms would be used.
